Hvar is a small island off the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. With crystal blue waters and quaint cobbled streets it really is a perfect little paradise. On the ferry from Split to Hvar, a video played on a continuous loop advertising local bars and restaurants. An advert also advised that nudity, public drinking and sleeping in public will incur a hefty fine. I hadn’t quite realised that I had set sail for the Croatian Magaluf!
Although my apprehension soon subsided I did suddenly become very aware that I was no longer in my early 20s.
There were plenty of party goers but Hvar certainly has a lot more to offer than just that. Wander through the old town, browse the local market and sip some of Croatia’s finest red wines.
For all you foodies, make sure you visit the family run restaurant Junior which is tucked away behind the main strip. Their seafood is caught fresh daily and cooked by Maria who is now in her 70s! Pay no attention to a few negative reviews which can be found on TripAdvisor which insinuate that the seafood is frozen, I can assure you that there is no BirdsEye to be found!

Another restaurant which is well worth a visit is Black Pepper. It’s very popular so you should try to book your table in advance. The food is great and the compliments from the chef appetiser and the complimentary glass of dessert wine are a very nice touch.
So all in all, don’t fret like I did, as I can vouch that tourists have not gone too far in Hvar. The island has introduced fines to crack down on bad behaviour where as Magaluf hasn’t. I think that says it all. 😉

Hear is such a beautiful place and you really captured its feel in your article!
Thanks! Glad you liked it 🙂
